Science says this about you.

Most people take 5-6 years to make a decision they already know they want to make

That big decision you want to make?

Unmade. Because: People. Places. Money. Time.. "I’ll do X when I have Y."

Maybe seem like good reasons.

But the decision you already know you want to make will take you 6 years to make it.
6 more years not doing the thing you said you wanted to do.

This week, you won’t regret it. But longer than that?

Studies show in an average week people regret actions they took at 53% - and inaction at 47%.
Short term, It's about even.

But when people look back over their whole lives, regrets of inaction outnumber regrets of action 84% to 16%.

84%
That's nearly everybody. Not acting on the thing they wanted to do. A planet full of regret.

The Status Quo Bias study showed most people stick with the current state even when alternatives are objectively better.

The crazy part? That BIG life decision is rarely a permanent one. If you wanted, you could easily return to the life you have today.

People's most enduring regrets come from the gap between their actual and ideal selves — and "the failure to be your ideal self is usually an inaction".

It’s not what you did that causes regret, it’s always what you didn’t.

The world used to give you time to figure this out. It doesn’t anymore.

There's something that you want to do. You might not know how. That's ok. You can learn.

Break it down.

Consumers v Creators Have you seen the Disney/Pixar movie WallE? It's about a cute robot who is left on earth to clean up the awful mess humans have left behind. Meanwhile, the humans that left earth float round in a spaceship courtesy of a corporation, developed into overweight slobs, plugged into screens showing them endless advertisements, holographic announcements, and social updates from the Buy n Large corporation. The constant screen time keeps passengers distracted and buying useless...

Think back to the first time you used the internet. The first time you actually used it, then kept using it every day without ever deciding to. For most of us there are years between those two moments. Mine started in 1996, in a college computer room with a friend about to 'go on the internet' for the first time.Neither of us knew what to look for. We decided to look at a book we were already reading. (Mr Nice FYI) There was no Google. Mobile phones were for businessmen. 1998. I made money...

She found me. I don’t know how, but she did. Diane. I few weeks ago I told you about my encounter in a hot tub with an elderly lady. Beneath the Bali stars and in the volcanic spring water, the conversation didn't feel like a chance encounter. It seemed like our paths were meant to cross, at that exact moment, to create a moment. A moment significant enough that I wrote to you about it, and significant enough to Diane to track me down a few weeks later. What she shared will remain between us....
